Materials & Construction

Materials & Construction

We build every RAM 2500 camper top from RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) fiberglass, a composite process that produces stronger, lighter panels than traditional hand-laid fiberglass. The shell cures in a closed mold under pressure, eliminating air pockets and ensuring consistent thickness across every square inch.

The perimeter frame is TIG-welded aluminum extrusion, not hollow tubing. This design distributes bed-load stress evenly and prevents the frame from bowing when you stack heavy cargo against the cab. Corner gussets are double-riveted and sealed with marine-grade adhesive, so water stays out even during pressure washing or heavy rain.

Sizing & Bed Compatibility

Sizing & Bed Compatibility

RAM 2500 pickups come in two bed lengths: the 6-foot-4-inch short bed and the 8-foot standard bed. We manufacture distinct cap models for each configuration—our templates account for the different stake-pocket spacing and tailgate hinge geometry between the two sizes.

Before ordering, confirm your bed length by measuring from the inside of the bulkhead (behind the cab) to the inside of the closed tailgate. The 6’4″ bed measures 76 inches; the 8′ bed measures 96 inches. Crew Cab and Mega Cab models use the same bed lengths, so cab style doesn’t affect cap fitment.

Window & Access Options

Window & Access Options

The standard RAM 2500 camper top ships with tinted sliding windows on both sides and a lift-up rear barn door. Side windows lock from the inside with rotating cam latches, and the glass is tempered automotive safety glass that meets DOT standards for vehicle glazing.

We also offer a bulkhead-style sliding front window that opens into the cab, turning the cap into a pass-through cargo bay. This option is popular with contractors who need to access long lumber or pipe without climbing into the bed. The front slider includes a mesh screen and a separate locking panel for security.

Perfect fit on my 2022 crew cab
I installed this on my 2022 RAM 2500 crew cab with the short bed, and the fitment is absolutely factory-level. The stake pocket clamps lined up perfectly, and the gap between the cap and the cab is less than a quarter inch. I've driven through two heavy rainstorms and the bed stayed completely dry.

Quality construction shows in every detail
The fiberglass is noticeably thicker than the aftermarket cap on my old F-250. The aluminum frame feels solid, and the locking latches have a satisfying click when they engage. I ordered the custom paint match in Flame Red, and my body shop guy said he couldn't tell where the truck paint ended and the cap began.

Holds up to jobsite abuse
I'm a general contractor and this cap sees daily use hauling tools, lumber, and materials. After eight months the gelcoat still looks new, even after I backed into a loading dock and put a small dent in the rear corner. The dent popped out with a heat gun—no cracks in the fiberglass.

Installation was easier than expected
My son and I installed this ourselves in about an hour and a half. The instructions were clear, and all the hardware was labeled and organized in separate bags. The trickiest part was aligning it perfectly before tightening the clamps, but we just took our time and it worked out great.

Great for camping gear and bikes
We use this cap to haul mountain bikes, camping gear, and coolers on weekend trips. The side windows let us check the cargo without opening the tailgate, and the locking system gives us peace of mind when we're parked at trailheads. The tinted glass keeps everything out of sight, which is a nice security feature.

Best investment for my work truck
I wish I'd bought this cap two years ago. It's transformed my truck from an open bed that filled with snow and rain into a secure cargo area I can use year-round. The weather seal is excellent—I've left expensive equipment in there during multi-day storms and everything stayed dry.

RAM 2500 Camper Top Questions

Yes, our RAM 2500 camper top is sized by bed length, not cab configuration. As long as you have the 6-foot-4-inch bed, the cap will fit whether you have a Crew Cab, Mega Cab, or Regular Cab. The stake pocket spacing and bed rail height are identical across all RAM 2500 cab styles with the same bed length.

Before ordering, measure your bed from the inside of the bulkhead to the inside of the closed tailgate. The short bed should measure 76 inches. If you have the 8-foot bed, you'll need our 8-foot cap model instead.

You'll need at least one helper to remove the cap safely. The RAM 2500 cap weighs approximately 180 pounds for the short bed and 215 pounds for the long bed. While the mounting clamps release easily with a socket wrench, lifting the cap off the bed requires two people to avoid damaging the fiberglass or scratching your truck's paint.

Once removed, the cap should be stored on padded sawhorses or a dedicated cap rack. Never lean it against a wall or stack items on top of it—the shell is designed to carry vertical load only when mounted to the truck's bed rails.

Our RAM 2500 camper top includes a plug-and-play wiring harness that connects directly to your truck's existing third brake light circuit. The harness has a weather-sealed connector that clips into the cap's LED assembly—no cutting or splicing required.

You'll route the harness along the driver-side bed rail and connect it to the truck's tail-light harness near the cab. The connector is keyed so it only fits one way. Once connected, test the brake lights and turn signals to confirm proper operation before final installation.

Our standard gelcoat comes in eight common RAM colors that are close matches for most factory paints. For an exact OEM match, we offer custom paint-to-sample using your truck's specific paint code. This option adds approximately two weeks to the production timeline and costs an additional fee.

The custom paint process uses the same three-stage booth and clear-coat application that RAM uses at the factory. We recommend ordering paint-to-sample if your truck is a metallic or pearl color, since these finishes are harder to match with standard gelcoat.

Yes, every RAM 2500 camper top includes pre-drilled provisions for aftermarket roof racks and crossbars. The mounting points are reinforced with aluminum backing plates and sealed with rubber grommets to prevent water intrusion.

We recommend using rack systems designed specifically for truck caps—these distribute weight across multiple mounting points and include taller standoffs to account for the cap's curved roof profile. Most owners install Yakima, Thule, or Rhino-Rack systems with load capacities between 150 and 300 pounds.

Our sliding side windows open horizontally on aluminum tracks and lock with rotating cam latches. They provide ventilation and easy access to smaller items in the bed without opening the rear door. Fixed windows are sealed permanently and cannot be opened, but they cost slightly less and eliminate one potential leak point.

Most RAM 2500 owners choose sliding windows for the added convenience, especially if you frequently access tools or gear while parked. Both window styles use tempered automotive safety glass and include tinting for UV protection and privacy.

Adding a camper top typically improves highway fuel economy by one to two miles per gallon compared to driving with an open bed. The cap creates a smooth aerodynamic profile that reduces drag and turbulence behind the cab.

However, if you install a tall roof rack or carry rooftop cargo, you may lose some of that efficiency gain. For best fuel economy, keep the cap's exterior clean and avoid loading more than 100 pounds of cargo on the roof. The weight penalty of the cap itself—about 180 to 215 pounds—has minimal impact on a RAM 2500's fuel consumption.
